Why the Dilettantista?

Well, for starters, “The Dilettante” was taken.  By a blogger who, evidently, hasn’t posted since April of 2008.

Anyhow, for a reason aside from my creepy dislike of a blogger I have never met, I give to you the dictionary:

Dilettante

dil·et·tante

Pronunciation: \ˈdi-lə-ˌtänt, -ˌtant; ˌdi-lə-ˈ\

Function: noun

Etymology: Italian, from present participle of dilettare to delight, from Latin dilectare

1 : an admirer or lover of the arts

2 : a person having a superficial interest in an art or a branch of knowledge

So combine the fact that I am a dilettante (some might say my M.A. might disqualify me but I find that the more I learn the more I realize I know nothing) with the current fascination in tacking –ista to the end of everything and we have me, the Dilettantista.

Update: Still in Chapel Hill.  Still packing.  How many shoes should I take?  That is today’s life-shattering question.  Trying to get into the habit of blogging daily, so look forward to a few more pack-centric posts before I get into the meat of things…

Leaving on Friday

Hi friends,

I am leaving Chapel Hill, NC on Friday, May 29th to spend a summer in New York City interning at the Whitney Museum of American Art.  Typically when I spend my summers doing exciting things in exciting places (ie: studying abroad or backpacking through Europe) I record my happenings via mass-blast e-mails that I send to tons of people.  I decided that this summer I would not clog my parents’ mailboxes/my friends’ mailboxes/my family’s mailboxes/the friends of my family’s mailboxes and that I would record my life on a blog.  So here we are.

Check back periodically as to what I am doing with my life in the city.  I intend for this blog to be pretty all-inclusive: work, theatre, art, food, friends, shennanigans.  I’m hoping that it takes some form and pattern over time, but it could very well just be me chattering on about myself.  We shall see.

Anyhow, I hope you enjoy what you read–I’ll endeavor to make it worthwhile!
