Wicked Wacky Wednesdays: Making Halloween Last for as Long as Possible!

Halloween only comes once a year, so I try to cram as many Halloween-related activities into the weeks surrounding the holiday as possible. Luckily the weekend before Halloween (I guess, in reality, the weekend before the weekend before Halloween) was filled with spooky activities.

On Friday night the Scrap Exchange, which is still doing awesomely in its new space at Golden Belt, opened the exhibit An Offering: La Ofrenda.  The exhibit is a series of Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) altars created by Durham artistic community members.  The exhibit, which runs until November 12th, is meant to be collaborative, people can bring photos and mementos of loved ones to add to the altars throughout the show.  Some of the altars are quite beautiful and moving.

Saturday we threw on our best stage blood and joined the undead at the Raleigh Zombie Walk.  While it was not the best-organized event of all time, it was pretty fun.  Approximately 200 zombies clustered around the acorn at Moore Square and at 7:00 we started lurching around downtown Raleigh.  I’m not sure what route we took (I don’t know downtown Raleigh all that well) but I know we went by the Capitol Building where we saw some Occupiers (who looked a little worse than we did, eek!) and we also shambled past Beasley’s Chicken and Honey on Martin Street.

Freaky Fridays: Zombies and Sluts! Zombie sluts!

Hi guys!

Firstly, Raleigh’s Zombie Walk is tomorrow and you should totally come!  The zombies will be meeting up by the acorn in Moore Square around 6:30-7:00 and then we’ll start shuffling (everyday we’re shuffling).  Even if you aren’t interested in zombie-ing it up you should come, the people watching should be fantastic!  The after party will be at Tir na Nog.  Be there or be brains!

This week The Hairpin had an excellent costume post on sexy Halloween costumes.  Don’t you hate how girls use Halloween as an excuse to slut and sex it up?  People do that at Dragon*Con too.  I don’t know, maybe it is because I wear Spanx every day and slutty outfits don’t really cover Spanx, but the slutty nurse/policewoman/librarian Halloween look just isn’t for me.  However, if the slutty look is for you–no judgment if it is!  I have a flabby stomach that requires Spanx granny panties so I can’t do that look!–and you are considering ideas other than sexy accountant, then you should totally check out some of these looks from the Hairpin:

Jillian Tamaki for The Hairpin.

See, this I can get behind.  I have a friend this year who is thinking of making a slutty bacon costume.  That’s awesome!  I’d totally eat me some slutty bacon.

I am trying to figure out what “version” of zombie to dress as tomorrow.  Business zombie?  Pajama zombie?  SLUTTY ZOMBIE?  Someone tell me so I can put my clothing together!  And I hope to see y’all tomorrow in Raleigh!

Freaky Fridays: Rapid Edition is Rapid

I’m not really feeling a super-long blog post today.  It is really pretty outside and also my baby Minion cat has decided to start grooming the big Dexter cat (much to Dexter’s annoyance) and it is sort of adorable.  It has been hard to focus on the blog with all this cuteness.

So once again, a few links today about costumes.

I especially love this woman who made herself look like a Roy Lichtenstein!

And my second goody of the day I got from NYMagazine.  I am going to put it after the jump, because it contains a major huge awesome amazing Breaking Bad spoiler from the season 4 finale, so if you care about Breaking Bad  and haven’t yet watched the season 4 finale (what is wrong with you) then don’t continue on.  In the meantime, spoilers abound…

Freaky Fridays: Random Edition is Random

This is going to be a bit of a random post about some costumes I ran into on the internet this week because I am preparing to join my family for Yom Kippur, which kicks off tonight.  I will not be posting tomorrow because I will be busy fasting and repenting from 9:00am-8:00pm in synagogue.  None of that is an exaggeration.

My first internet costume discovery happened yesterday, and it involves the Olsen twins.  I know.  So the Olsen twins got dressed up in iconic nerd gear for a video they are filming for their site, StyleMint.  As you can imagine, their takes on Catwoman, Batman, and Darth Vader are a little less old school and a little more urban chic, or whatever.  I got these photos courtesy of NYMagazine’s Vulture and they, in turn, got their photos courtesy of Just Jared.
