Dragon*Con 2012 Recap: Sunday Game of Thrones Photoshoot

I know, I know, you’re mad, right? No apologies–I’ve been busy, and last weekend was my first weekend at home in something like five weeks, and I just wanted to sit on the couch and watch football, so I did, and it was fantastic.  And now I’m finally going to get to wrapping up the 2012 Dragon*Con recaps, starting with a Game of Thrones photoshoot in which I participated on Sunday.

Sunday morning I woke up, dressed in Melisandre (check out this post where I give GIANT THANKS to the lovely and talented women who made this costume a reality), and traipsed over to the Hilton lobby to meet up with some other fantastic Game of Thrones costumers.  Look at all those colorful people!  This was a bunch of us assembled at the Hilton around noon to get the shoot started.

Oh wait, you want a close-up?

I am angry because you can sort of see my real hair from this angle, blergh.

Check out this girl’s amazing Quaithe costume:

Priestesses of Asshai!

I know you can’t tell, but all the nametags on this guy had variations of “MY NAME IS REEK” or “RHYMES WITH MEEK” and other things referring to Reek and A Dance with Dragons…so I won’t keep going because, spoilers!

And then we wandered outside the Hilton and I ran into the lovely Mary, who was quite fetchingly dressed as Morgana!  Loved her costume.

So I somehow got pulled into a smaller Game of Thrones photoshoot with a professional(?) photographer (I think they’d lost their Melisandre and they needed another one), and that shoot sidetracked the Marriott for a bit:

Ghost came too.

Then we went outside to The Cigarette Courtyard where the photographer made me ruin my dress (not really, but in my head I was all: “BUT THIS IS AN ALAIA.”)

13 Days to Dragon*Con: On Missing Your Cat

Happy Friday everyone!  This is going to be a brief post, about small, fuzzy animals, and how they can bring us together at Con!  I love meeting new people, and it is so easy to do that at Dragon*Con, and nothing breaks the ice better than “I HAVE A SMALL FUZZY CREATURE THAT I LOVE DO YOU?”

So last Dragon*Con, on Sunday night, I had a conversation with a girl in a Baroness costume about how much we missed our cats.

So that’s the Baroness and me.

And that is us looking at cat pictures.

The Baroness and I both agreed that the one negative about Dragon*Con was that we couldn’t take our cats with us.  At the time Jon and I only had one cat, Dexter, but now we have two kitties!  Behold:

Black kitties!  Such good costume props, right?!

Do you miss your pets when you’re at Dragon*Con, at 2:00am in the morning when you are drunkish and someone has spilled booze on your costume?  Because sometimes when that happens all I want to do is snuggle with a kitty!

GAME OF THRONES HAPPENED (and so did FAT BETTY wow)

Okay so April is really busy for me at work and also life so posts will be sporadic.  Also my family is coming this week, MY WHOLE FAMILY, and they are coming for Passover, which I am cooking for the first night of Seder, so this week is busy because COOKING AND CLEANING.  Also next week is busy because I am going out of town, and the week after is busy because of work and also the week after that.  You get the picture.  So, how about a rapid post about television!!?!?!?!

Wow guys did you SEE Game of Thrones on Sunday?  Melisandre was pretty hot wasn’t she?  Evidently the is topping the Attractive Game of Thrones Power Rankings which, duh (it is the hair, they say).  Also: infanticide, Peter Dinklage getting first billing, more baby killing, idol burning, gorgeous set locations and all around awesomeness.  Most awesome show on television y’all, truly.

Also, did you guys see Fat Betty Draper Francis?!  I just can’t get it out of my head you guys.  I can’t.  Here is a picture:

Yep.  That happened.  Poor January Jones.

Okaaaay I’m going to go back to worrying about work/cooking for Passover/cleaning my house now!  I hope y’all’s April is off to a glorious start!

That Time When Mad Men and Game of Thrones Came Back

GUYS.  Popular culture is being so good to me right now–and no, I’m not talking about the disappointing film adaptation of The Hunger Games.  I won’t go into it too much, because most of the reviewers have already said what I felt, but basically the books are great and gutsy and have a real sense of risk and urgency to them.  The film, however, is sort of flat and lacks any sense of violence or urgency or terror.  This is mostly because the film is PG-13 and so you have to lose all the insane stuff that makes the book so unusual so that the little children can go see it.  Anyways, see the movie because Jennifer Lawrence and Stanley Tucci and Donald Sutherland are all great, but also read the book because it is pretty awesome.

Anyways, popular culture is being so good to me right now because Mad Men is now back (after a hiatus of almost a year and a half, DISASTER) and Game of Thrones is coming back on Sunday!  This is amazing!

Mad Men on Sunday was super great, did y’all see Megan’s crazy song and dance scene?  Oh you didn’t?!  Well here you go:

That’s Jessica Paré as Megan, and that scene could very well make her a star.  Anyways, Mad Men‘s two hour premiere on Sunday was awesome, I’m so happy this show is back.

I am also happy because Game of Thrones is returning this upcoming Sunday, which means that for ten blessed weeks Game of Thrones and Mad Men will play back to back.  I am excited for many reasons, such as the Blackwater episode that was written by George R.R. Martin himself and is being directed by Neil Marshall, and also Peter Dinklage as Tyrion Lannister, and also dragons.  It will all be incredible.  Also, Melisandre will be on this season!  Remember Melisandre?  Remember how I dressed up as her for Dragon*Con?  And then remember how I marched in the Dragon*Con parade with the Game of Thrones group and then I was in a big Game of Thrones photoshoot at Dragon*Con?  Don’t remember?  HERE IS A PICTURE!

Anyways, like I said, Melisandre will be on this season!  She is being played by Carice van Houten, and she looks like this:

Yessss she looks great y’all!  Who is super excited for the show to be on so I can get lots of screen shots of Melisandre to create my screen-accurate Dragon*Con costume (among other reasons?)  This girl!

Enjoy your Sunday night television y’all!

A New Background

I just wanted to give a quick shout-out to Marc from Robot Attack for helping me out a bit with my blog (thanks Marc!).  He switched up the sidebar some, and also made me that pretty new background!  I’m trying to spruce this baby up a little bit, in preparation for something exciting–I can’t wait to share it with y’all, I’m just waiting for a few more logistical specifics!

My birthday yesterday was good, low-key fun.  I’ll recap it tomorrow.  In the meantime I am having the laziest Sunday ever.  I am currently watching the Heels battle out the hated FSU Seminoles in the ACC championship game.  I might even skip the gym today (which I NEVER do).  I did go to the gym yesterday–as you can see, I’m a crazy addict type.  I considered heading to Durham‘s Central Park area for the Food Truck Rodeo, but I have so much leftover food in my fridge from my birthday that going out and paying for food just seemed wasteful and not particularly economical.  If any of you go to the Rodeo, I hope you have a great time!

Happy Sunday everyone!
